Frequently Asked Questions

I'm having a problem with my user account. Who do I talk to about technical issues?

Our webmaster is very diligent about handling any technical issues on the volunteer website (volunteer.winter-carnival.com). You can email our webmaster directly with any technical issues you have at the following address:

What should I wear when I volunteer?

Inside: You can wear whatever you feel comfortable in; you know what areas you have been assigned to and if it will require you to be outside. We will provide a garment that will read "volunteer" for you to be identified.

Outside: We are in Minnesota and it's January! Dress in layers. We want you to be warm and your experience to be enjoyable! Please use common sense and check with a weather broadcast to check out what might lie in store for the day of your shift. You may want to invest in hand and/or toe warmers. We will have time for volunteers to go inside and warm up on a rotation schedule, but for the majority of your shift you will be outside and want to prepare for the elements!

What should I bring?

DO NOT bring valuables with you! We will provide a place to hang up your jackets, but there will not be a monitor for these articles; we will NOT have a location to store anything for you during your shift! We will NOT be responsible for lost or stolen articles -- you will NOT need them during your shift. Leave your valuables and similar items at home.

Will I get anything?!

Besides the satisfaction of knowing you will have participated in "The Coolest Celebration on Earth,"™ volunteers working at least one, 3 hour shift, will receive a 2005 Volunteer Pin and an additional appreciation item.

Will there be food provided, or do I bring my own?

Feel free to bring refreshments or snacks along with you, but there will be food vendors available for volunteers and the general public during the events.

Where will I check in?

Volunteers with be directed to 'volunteer central' at Landmark Center.

I want to buy/wear official Saint Paul Winter Carnival apparel. Where I can I purchase these items?

Saint Paul Winter Carnival merchandise will be for purchase at our Winter Carnival events and also on the Winter Carnival website.

Where can I park for my volunteer shift?

There are many ramps and metered spots within and surrounding Saint Paul. Please visit the following website link to find out what will work best for you: http://www.saintpaulparking.com/html/frame.html.

Will I be reimbursed for parking during my volunteer shift?

NO. There are parking locations (ramps, meters, and surface lots) for your use during the Winter Carnival, however it is first-come, first-serve. Please AVOID the hooded meters and plan appropriately to find a parking location and to be to your volunteer shift on time!

A list of the MTC bus routes are located on the Saint Paul Winter Carnival website; please visit the following link for more information, http://www.metrocouncil.org/transit/stmap.html.

What do I do if I need to cancel?

We appreciate your volunteer commitment and understand how schedules change. Should you need to cancel, please be courteous and give us as much notice is possible. We request this in order to give us extra time in finding a replacement for your shift. Without notice of your absence, other volunteers will need to compensate for the lack of volunteer help and that also jeopardizes our event functions.

You can manage your volunteer assignments by logging onto the site and selecting "Your Events/Sign Up" or e-mail us at
